Creative Commons

I was unaware of the legalities that surround using photos off the internet before doing this course. I thought that if images were on the internet, they were free for all to use as long as they were not obviously used as a brand. How wrong was I? I have learned that many images have a copyright license which means they can only be used by the person who owns the image. Before using an image, I now check to see if the image has a creative commons license and only proceed to use them if they have this license. I have only recently been made aware that there is the risk that an image that has the creative commons license may have the license changed at any time which can put me in breach of licensing laws. This happened to Bobbi Newman as she writes here. I am starting to see the wisdom in trying to use images that I have personally taken as this is the safest way to stay on the right side of the law.
